About

We make videos.

Split Prism is a video production company based in Los Angeles, California. Born and raised among the Blue Ridge Mountains, we’ve grown up surrounded by craft products and small businesses. To honor the craft legacy, we approach video creation with a farm-to-table mentality, tending to every step of the creative process.

We have vertically integrated capabilities to match you exact needs. We are able to work with you from the seed of an idea to the distribution of a finely-tuned product, or we are able to isolate just the steps you need. For example:

  • If your company wants to begin distributing video marketing on social media but doesn’t know where to start, we can help you navigate every step of the process.

  • OR if you have a concept, a distribution plan, and a whole lot of raw footage - we can offer our editing services to craft a video series to fit your brand.

No matter how we collaborate with you, we center unique, high quality, detail-oriented video services to achieve your brand goals.

What’s a “Split Prism”?

Some cameras utilize a split prism viewfinder to focus the image. Looking through the prism, anything out of focus will appear in a double (or split) image. As you bring the subject into focus, the the two images join into one clear image. We are big fans of film and vintage cameras, and we are two people who look forward to joining you to bring your video projects into focus.

Our Team

Two partners, who met while attending the University of Virginia, turned passion into profession to found Split Prism Productions. We are versed in digital and analog film formats, and utilize our knowledge for both narrative and commercial projects.

Jess Littman

Jess spent nearly two decades of her life telling people she was going to be an actor. What she didn’t know is that filmmaking would expand her professional title from “actor” to “writer, director, producer, editor.” She attended the University of Virginia, where she graduated with a degree in Drama and American Popular & Visual Culture. Also during her time at UVA, she met Drew while they were both performing in “The Comedy of Errors.” They went on to act in multiple theatre pieces and student films together before they collaborated behind the camera on the official first Split Prism Picture, “The Call.” Since graduating, Jess found herself freelancing in the gig economy - jumping from backstage, to onstage, to behind the camera, to in front of it. This led her to working on the set of SHOWTIME’s limited series “The Good Lord Bird,” starring Ethan Hawke, before settling back into self-employment. But this time, she and Drew combined their professional skills and production experiences to formalize their partnership.

Thus, Split Prism was born.

Drew McCarter

Drew McCarter grew up in the small town of Nellysford VA where his backyard was nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. When he was 13 years old he picked up a guitar and ever since then he has been on the path to Art and filmmaking. While studying Media and Film at the University of Virginia he took a class in Cinematography where he got to shoot on 16mm film; he cites this class as being the reason he fell in love with cinematography and video editing. When Drew graduated from UVA in May of 2019 he did a brief stint on the TV show The Good Lord Bird as a PA and then moved into professional video editing for the award winning show Corn Warriors. Since March of 2019 Drew has been living in Richmond Virginia making both commercial and creative short films. On weekends you will likely find Drew at a central Virginia brewery or coffee sitting outside taking Polaroids and 35mm photos.
